ECIO 2013 - PROMISING INNOVATION
ECIO 2013 - INNOVATION IN INTERVENTIONAL ONCOLOGY
Budapest, Hungary, 19 June 2013
Budapest, Hungary is this year’s location for the annual European Conference on Interventional Oncology (ECIO). ECIO 2013 is a unique chance to further explore the ways in which image-guided minimally invasive procedures are transforming oncology.
NEW PILLAR OF ONCOLOGY
Interventional oncology has played an important role in oncology for a long time, beginning originally in palliative care and now the specialty joins surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy as one of the pillars of oncology, due to the recent development of potentially curative minimally invasive procedures. The rapid pace of interventional oncology is reflected in the content of ECIO 2013 – not only has ECIO evolved into an annual event, its programme is packed with more research and innovation than ever before, including twice as many hands-on workshops and two Multidisciplinary Tumour Boards, one on HCC and hepatic metastases, the other addressing lung and kidney cancers.
HOT TOPICS IN INTERVENTIONAL ONCOLOGY
The content of ECIO 2013 reflects the wide range of topics in interventional oncology. There is a session dedicated to exploring different perspectives worldwide on the role of ablation versus resection for small tumours as well as one on whether conventional TACE is being replaced by novel techniques. For the first time there will be a joint session with ESTRO, the European Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology, which will focus on professional issues in cancer care.
In addition, the successful “ECIO meets…” programme will continue this year; ECIO will meet ILCA, the International Liver Cancer Association, to discuss open issues in the management of liver cancer, and with WCIO, the World Conference on Interventional Oncology, to consider the future of the discipline. Recognising the inspiring new developments and directions in this fast paced field is an important feature of ECIO 2013 so there will be a session dedicated to new horizons in interventional oncology.
SUPPORTING LINKS BETWEEN PHYSICIANS FROM ALL SPECIALTIES
ECIO 2013 strives to build and strengthen connections between the medical departments. To encourage a wider understanding of the vital role played by interventional oncology as well as the multidisciplinary nature of cancer management, a significant aspect of ECIO 2013 is the “Referring Physician” programme. The ECIO Incentive Programme allows radiologists who are fully registered for ECIO 2013 in Budapest to invite their referring physician to the conference for free. Through this remarkable programme guest colleagues can familiarise themselves with the benefits of interventional oncology for their patients and the most efficient possibilities of combining the different methods of treatment.
GET THE LATEST NEWS FROM SPECIALISTS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD
ECIO 2013 is for cancer care a highlight of the year and is attended by many specialists from all over the world – over 1,000 delegates from more than 60 countries took part in ECIO 2012. It is a fantastic opportunity to interview the experts in interventional oncology and see first-hand how their contributions are enhancing the field of oncology. Furthermore, ECIO’s corporate partners comprise a technical exhibition showcasing the latest advances in medical technology.
