The European Conference on Interventional Oncology (ECIO) becomes a yearly fixture in the calendar of events dedicated to cancer care.

ECIO 2013, June 19-22, Budapest, Hungary

Interventional Oncology is a very fast-growing field. Interventional radiologists have always made an important contribution to the palliation of cancer patients, and many of the procedures we offer contribute significantly to the quality of life of patients with incurable malignant disease.

In recent years, potentially curative interventional radiological procedures have been developed, enabling our discipline to contribute even more to the field of oncology and to supplement or replace surgical and other methods of treatment.

Thus, Interventional Oncology is fast becoming the fourth oncological discipline, alongside surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. This upgraded role makes it important to focus in detail on every aspect of this important subject, and to explore not only technological developments but also issues relating to training and practice.

The ECIO makes an important contribution in this regard, as it offers comprehensive coverage of new developments and offers opportunities to interventional radiologists to keep up to date with this subject, which has great strategic importance for our specialty.

In view of the fast pace of technological change, as well as the rapidly evolving role of Interventional Oncology in cancer care, the ECIO will become an annual event as of 2012.

Featuring an enhanced scientific programme, world-renowned faculty and expanded technical exhibition, ECIO remains at the forefront of education and innovation; a trend that will undoubtedly continue, with the 4th European Conference on Interventional Oncology - ECIO 2013 - already planned to take place from June 19-22 in Budapest, Hungary.

The date was chosen in consideration of other confirmed events during the year 2013 and the intention is to have ECIO 2014 and further editions to take place between mid-April and mid-May.

Minimally invasive therapy is making great strides in cancer care, and ECIO is the place to find out why.
