Vienna City Marathon

During the first day of this year's ECIO congress (April 22), the Vienna City Marathon will take place. We therefore would like to inform you on how best to navigate the city so that you can easily access the congress centre and your accommodation on April 22.

Roads located along the marathon route will be closed from the early morning of April 22 until 14:00-15:00. If you are staying along the Ringstrasse, Hauptallee, and Universitätsring, these roads will be particularly difficult to reach, so if you are arriving on Sunday, April 22, it would be advisable to take the underground system (U-Bahn) or train system (S-Bahn) rather than a taxi, private car or bus. On Saturday, April 21, there will be a short run and a children's event, during which a small area will be closed to traffic around the Wien Mitte/Landstrasse area. Information will be updated with exact timings and closures 2-3 weeks before the Marathon.

Trains are currently scheduled to be running as usual.

Getting to the Messe Wien

Vienna International Airport is served by an efficient rail connection, which delivers passengers to Messe Wien within 40 minutes travel time and to the city centre in 16 minutes. Those heading directly to the Messe Wien should take the Schnellbahn S7 (which passes through the city centre) to Wien Praterstern Bahnhof where they will transfer to the Vienna underground line U2. One stop further along the U2 line towards Seestadt will bring them to Messe-Prater station, right in front of the congress centre. Those preferring a quick and direct trip to Vienna City Centre can take the CAT City Airport Train. This 16-minute, non-stop train runs every 30 minutes between 06:00 and 23:39 daily.
